1. Log in to Yahoo! or BT Yahoo! and go to Mail. Then choose Options and More Options Note that there are lots of different versions of the Yahoo! and BT Yahoo! menu screens, so yours may not look exactly like this. These screenshots are taken from the BT Yahoo! "New" interface in November 2010, but you may have to use a little initiative if yours are different. |
| 2. Choose Accounts. | |
3. Choose Add Account. |
4. You should see this. |
5. Fill in this page as apropriate for you. Account name can be anything -- it's only used to identify this account within your BT control panel Set as default sending account only applies when sending from BT webmail. Your 'From' name is the name recipients will see; this must also be set in your e-mail program (Outlook or whatever) Email address is the non-BT e-mail address you want to use. You must be able to read mail sent to this address (BT will send a message to it which you must acknowledge) and it must match what is set up in your e-mail program (Outlook or whatever). See this example for how to set up Outlook 2003. Leave the rest blank and click Save Changes | |
6. BT will put up a notice saying they have sent a message to your non-BT address, and you have to acknowledge that e-mail by clicking on a link in it. The message has a link to re-send the verification e-mail if you need to. If you don't get the e-mail, check that it's not being blocked by your spam filters. The message comes up but no e-mail is sent if this isn't the first time you've validated this e-mail address with BT. Check the e-mail inbox of the non-BT address, and click on the link contained in the mail item from BT Yahoo! |

Now your account in the BT control panel should lose the exclamation mark, and your are allowed to send mail through BT's SMTP servers using the From Name and e-mail address you entered in step 5 above. Now your e-mail program (Outlook, Windows Mail, Live Mail or whatever) must be configured to use BT's SMTP servers and to show the non- BT e-mail address. |
